NPA ACT Burning Issues June 2010

Thursday 17 June: Environmental changes and management responses over the last 45 years - Roger Good

When and Where: 8.00pm Uniting Church Hall at 56 Scrivener St, O'Connor (corner of Brigalow and Scrivener Sts)
Who: Everyone is welcome, bring a friend, ample parking in the church grounds.
Roger, after working with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service for 25 years, continues to be involved with many conservation projects including wetland and riverine restoration, and research on the impact of climate change on alpine plants.

The presentation will give an overview of how management of Kosciuszko NP has changed over the past 50 years as a response to increasing pressure from feral animals, weeds, climate change, reduced water yields and the changing demands and expectations of park users. The talk will start with the grazing days and finish with what is now being done in terms of catchment and water management.

NPA ACT photographic exhibitions - see and marvel

Relax and enjoy NPA ACT's photographic exhibitions which will showcase members' work and through it, the places that they love. The images range from flora and fauna to landscapes and people enjoying their environment. A big thank you to coordinator Martin Chalk, to Robyn Chalk, Adrienne Nicholson, and Chris de Bruine who have spent many hours selecting members' photos, typing labels with relevant details for each exhibit, doing running repairs, and arranging exhibitions at the different venues. And of course, thank you to our photographers too.

Entry is free. The different venues will show different themes or aspects of the photographic entries. Finally, at the Canberra Library, the whole exhibition will come together. The venues are:

14 May -18 June at the Namadgi Visitor Centre on the Naas Road, beyond Tharwa

5 June - 13 June at the Woden Public Library

7 June - 25 June at the National Botanic Gardens' main exhibition area: flora theme

2 July - 9 July at the Tuggeranong Library

2 July - 9 July at the Gungahlin Library

6 August - 20 August at the Civic Public Library, mezzanine display area

The exhibition was made possible by a grant from the ACT Heritage Grants program.

While I'm away until mid August, Chris Emery will be editor. If he takes time off, Burning Issues will go into hibernation for a short while.

Meanwhile, enjoy what the bush has to offer during the cooler weather.
