722 Red Wattlebird - Photography by Liz Harman

Breeding in Canberra suburbs this is one of the larger Australian honeyeaters. With its long brush-tipped tongue it extracts nectar and pollen from flowers but also feasts on insects and fruit. The name comes from the red lobes of skin extending from its cheeks.
