Spotted-tailed Quoll (Dasyurus maculatus)

Spotted-tailed Quoll (Dasyurus maculatus) - Photography by Phil Gatenby

The spotted-tailed Quoll or Tiger Quoll is a carnivorous marsupial, native to Australia and an apex predator. It is the largest quoll, half as big again as the next largest. Males may weigh in at 7kg, the females 4kg. Phil spotted this one on the bank of Ettrema Ck NSW, hunting an Eastern Water Dragon (unsuccessfully it seems). They occasionally visit Canberra suburbs from Namadgi National Park.
