Highland Copperhead (Austrelaps ramsayi)

Highland Copperhead (Austrelaps ramsayi) - Photography by Rupert Barnett

Ross Bennett's 'Frogs & Reptiles of the ACT' produced by NPA ACT describes this snake and its environment. It is found in the high country above about 700m and has considerable colour variability. The yellow scales along the lower sides, some tinged orange, can cause it to be mis-identified as a Red-bellied black or erroneously called a yellow-bellied black.
