Orchard Swallowtail Butterfly Papilio aegeus - Photography by Kevin McCue

Orchard swallowtail butterflies are also known as large citrus butterflies because the larvae feed on citrus leaves. These butterflies are native to Papua New Guinea and eastern Australia and are from the family Papilionidae, the family of swallowtail butterflies. Their wingspan ranges from 100 to 140mm, the females being slightly larger than the males.
This female was seen in Aranda on a maple in our front yard.
