Gudgenby bushies

The Gudgenby Bushies, formerly the Gudgenby Bush Regeneration Group (GBRG), were formed in May 1998 to involve the community in the task of rehabilitating land formerly occupied by the Boboyan pine plantation in Namadgi National Park. The lobbying efforts of NPA ACT were instrumental in securing the plantation’s removal and NPA ACT maintained a close association with the group following its establishment as a stand-alone incorporated association.

Logging of the plantation began in 1997 and the last piles of pine slash were burnt in April 2005, completing what the 2003 bushfires failed to do. GBRG celebrated its 20th anniversary in July 2018 and continued to hold regular work parties to replant native species and remove weeds and surplus fences.

In November 2025, GBRG members voted for the group’s voluntary cancellation as an incorporated association, in favour of continuing our activities as part of NPA ACT. Now known as Gudgenby Bushies, the group’s focus has extended beyond the former plantation to include rehabilitation activities across the wider Gudgenby valley.
