Endangered lizard makes a comeback

Six years into a project to bring theĀ Canberra Grassland Earless Dragon (Tympanocryptis lineata) back from its critically endangered status, the lizards are being relocated back into the wild, according to Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve threatened species program manager Dr Sarah May.

In 2021, the reserve received funding from the ACT Government to establish a breeding colony. Starting with 27 dragons, 93 dragons have so far been bred at Tidbinbilla and 81 of these have been used in conservation translocations and provided for research.
