It’s been 10 years of hard slog – but Saturday, 27 June was a  landmark day when seven NPA volunteers removed the last of old fences from the Gudgenby Valley in Namadgi National Park. The fences – remnants from long-ago farming days – had  posed a danger to wildlife.

Many of the volunteers are seasoned fence removers, and determinedly set to the task of completing the 10-year-long project last Saturday with amazing efficiency. 

The first bit of fence was gone by morning tea and the last remaining fence was demolished just after lunch. The wiring was wound up and the uprights levered out of the ground and left for Namadgi’s rangers to collect.

Everybody headed home with a satisfied sense of achievement.
