Popular NPA bird guide updated

NPA’s popular Field Guide to the Birds of the ACT has been updated and reprinted for the fifth time since it was first published in 1993. The latest reprint, in May 2025, has a new foreword and minor changes to the status of a few birds based on more information from Canberra Birds, formerly Canberra Ornithologists Group.

The guide now recognises that the Gang-gang Cockatoo is the ACT’s faunal emblem.

Disturbingly, the number of threatened bird species in the ACT has grown. This reflects in part more closely aligning the ACT conservation status with that of the ACT.

The book and other NPA field guides are available from a number of outlets in the ACT.
