Thursday, 3 October - a ruby red-letter day for Namadgi National Park, and NPA ACT.

The day marks the 40th anniversary of the gazettal of Namadgi National Park, on 3 October 1984. This was the achievement of the goal – a national park for the national capital - for which NPA was formed in 1960.

To celebrate the event, in early in 1985 a group of NPA ACT members climbed both Mount Kelly and Mount Namadgi. They brought two bottles of champagne to celebrate the establishment of Namadgi National Park (photo).

A more recent celebration was held on 4 October at the Namadgi Visitor Centre where Parks NPA members, Parks and Conservation staff and guests gathered foir speeches and to share a birthday cake to mark the occasion.

We have more birthday celebrations planned for the anniversary.

On 12 October there will be two walks from the Namadgi Visitor Centre (NVC), followed by a Lions barbecue. See our events calendar at https://www.npaact.org.au/events-calendar for details.

Also visit our display at NVC highlighting our involvement with Namadgi over the past 40 years. We have also published a special 20-page supplement  for or the 40th anniversary at https://bit.ly/3TbxVXM.
