What's a birthday without a cake!
A/Namadgi Manager Mim Jebrecina (left) and NPA president Rosemary Hollow cut the birthday cake, watched by NPA life member and former president Esther Gallant.
No birthday celebration would be complete without a cake – and yesterday’s occasion organised by NPA and ACT Parks at Namadgi Visitor Centre (NVC) to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the gazettal of Namadgi National Park on 3 October 1984 was no exception.
Before the formal cake cutting there were two walks organised from NVC – one led by NPA’s Rod Griffiths to Cypress Pine Lookout on Mount Tennent and another, shorter walk around the nature trail behind the Visitor Centre, led by Kamilaroi man Aaron Chatfield of Dreamtime Connections. Aaron pointed out and discussed and demonstrated uses of plants used by First Nations peoples. He also displayed and discussed a range of Indigenous tools, including coolamons, boomerangs, and spears.
And nobody went hungry, thanks to a barbecue put on for the event by the Canberra Lions Club.
